The Art of Kawaii

 

In Japanese culture, “kawaii” means cute! Think Hello Kitty. Think Pokémon and anime. We’re going to make a collection of adorable cuties, including designing our very own characters using kawaii principles. Learn different facial expressions and drawing techniques specific to this genre.

Suggested Supplies: Pencil, Eraser (pink, white or kneaded all work great), a variety of black ink pens (my suggestions would be Micron illustration pens and a brush tip marker). You are welcome to bring your own supplies, but a course kit is also available for purchase. Please request a kit when registering for the class.

Please bring your own markers or colored pencils. We’ll color our cuties, when time permits.

&10 sheets of 9”X12” acid-free drawing paper (70 lb.).

      Week 1- Fast Food

      We will familiarize ourselves with the supplies and jump right into kawaii culture              and draw the most adorable fast food goodies.

 

      Week 2- Sweet Treats

      Ice cream cones, cupcakes & donuts… oh my!

 

      Week 3- Stationery

      Add cute, expressive faces to your favorite office supply doodles.

 

      Week 4- Grocery Store

      We’ll cover every aisle of the grocery store, from produce to the junk food aisle.

 

      Week 5- Pets

      They’re cute. They’re cuddly. They’re kawaii.

 

      Week 6- We Go Together

      Bacon & Eggs, Burger & Fries, Peanut Butter & Jelly and more…

 

      Week 7- Zoo Life

      Things that bounce, climb, swim and crawl… we’ll draw them all.

 

      Week 8- Unicorns, Rainbows & More

      … maybe even some kawaii poop!

 

      Week 9- Cuties

      Learn how to draw a kawaii character from start to finish.

 

      Week 10- Kawaii Explosion

      By now, you’re a pro at all things Kawaii. Use all of what you’ve learned to make

      a darling “poster” of cuteness.
